Duncan Idaho by endoftheline Duncan Idaho by endoftheline
Here we have Duncan Idaho from Frank Herbert's Dune series in his Fish Speaker Commander uniform. because I so love Duncan...

I based him off Henry Cavill, an upcoming british actor... who I would cast in a heartbeat as Duncan if I were to make a Dune film. God Emperor of Dune film that is, I wouldn't revisit what's already been done.

this was an exercise in digital painting.. because I'm still not completely used to Painter...

Have you read The Butlerian Jihad or any of the House books? House Atreides/Harkonnen/Corrino or The Machine Crusade or Heretics of Dune? Yeah, best books I have ever read. Definitely one of my all time favorite series. Love it! I love your depiction of Duncan. I have not read the Mistborn series, but given your good taste in books, I will have to have a look.

The KJA/BH books are just glorified fanfic next to Frank Herbert's Original Six Dune novels. I do like this depiction of Duncan Idaho. There isn't much art around that's based on God Emperor of Dune, and this is a very good interpretation of Duncan.

I actually just finished the Butlerian Jihad, and will probably be moving onto the House books next! I was actually thinking of starting Dune back up after reading Mistborn, because I did really enjoy Mistborn but Dune was just so powerful a read that first time I read it. I had such fond memories of the series as a teen and just remember being totally entranced and blown away by Frank Herbert's writing.

Which is partially why I had never branched out to any of the other Dune books, I was scared that they might ruin my perfect universe. Still, I keep seeing the covers for the Paul of Dune and Winds of Dune books, and they really bring me back and I'm finally decided if I was going to revisit the Dune universe anyways may as well start chronologically now that there's way more material to read! I am enjoying Brian & Kevin's stories. I don't think they have as strong of prose or character/world depth that Frank Herbert was able to create. Again some of this could just be my childhood bias towards the original series. I do really enjoy the tie in to our future and there are definitely things that stick in my mind about the books. So it does have some great imagery. I'll keep going though.

Hope you enjoy Mistborn! I really did like it, not sure its as strong as Dune, has a very cool magic system though. I so wish it were real.. Another good read is the Mars books (Red Mars, Blue Mar, & Green Mars) by Kim Stanley Robinson. I've just started the first book of that series at the suggestion of a friend, and his prose is also very strong and with a lot of depth and thought provoking writing. It reminds me more of Dune, it's more of a slow build with more character depth. Where Mistborn is great but a little more fast paced.

eventually yes I'd like to revisit the Dune series. It's one of my favorites. But I'm actually reading Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series and it's really inspiring me to work on art related to that right now.

Duncan is my alter ego.
Thanks for this one.
I think this is one of the best Duncan's portraits.

This fits him perfectly! I'm not very good at picturing characters in much detail, while I'm reading; I just have sort of an idea, you know?

Now I know exactly what he looks like. Thank you. :] Can't wait to get back to God Emperor of Dune.
