Personal Quote: "Alright that's it... Pistols at dawn!"
So latest obsession? Anne of Green Gables. After hearing of the passing of Jonathan Crombie, the actor who played Gilbert Blythe, Anne’s love interest in the mini-series, I decided it was time to revisit the AoGG universe. I had vague memories of liking it as a kid. It was one of those things I’d watch with my grandmother, that, Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie.
I have to say it is such a lovely book, a little known classic that really hits at the heart of childhood with me. Lucy Maud Montgomery’s protagonist is just wonderful. She really captures how you feel as a little girl, and the over-dramatization that comes with that age, where everything is life or death! I can’t help but feel complete nostalgia while reading. It really is a timeless classic.
Anne and Diana’s relationship reminds me so much of my best friend and all the fun we had at that age, those years when your imagination ran wild. I’m taken back to the days of playing with my Elizabeth, pretending to be Catwoman and Poison Ivy, or riding our valiant steeds (bikes), making maps and having epic adventures daily. Truly some of the best and fondest memories I have are from those days. I can’t wait until my daughter grows up and I can hopefully share with her all my little obsessions and hopefully cultivate her own imagination.
Oh yeah, and I drew this but they honestly they look too old. Alas, maybe next time. Sadly there is no Gilbert in this one, perhaps there will be more later.
Also this is an awesome reading of the book if anyone is interested in Anne of Green Gables, they have audio versions available to dl too!
